Usage notes

Created by the National Defense Act of 1916, ROTC is the largest single source of new Army officers. Scholarship students incur a service obligation, typically eight years total with several on active duty. Pronounced "ROT-see" or as letters. The Army, Navy and Air Force programs are often written AROTC, NROTC and AFROTC; the high school program is JROTC. The apostrophe follows "Officers'" in the official name.
