MGIB stands for Montgomery GI Bill, a veteran abbreviation.
Education benefit program for veterans and reservists, named for Representative G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery, that pays a fixed monthly amount while the student pays tuition directly. Active-duty members typically paid a buy-in during their first year.
Example: He chose MGIB payments because his community college tuition was low.
Usage notes
The active-duty version is Chapter 30, created in 1984, and the Selected Reserve version is Chapter 1606. Most eligible veterans now choose the Post-9/11 GI Bill instead. Some veterans may be eligible for both.
