LEFS stands for Lower Extremity Functional Scale, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Twenty-item questionnaire asking how difficult everyday activities are because of a leg problem, such as walking, stairs and squatting, scored 0 to 4 each for a total of 80. Higher scores mean better function.
Example: LEFS improved from 32/80 to 58/80 over 8 weeks.
Usage notes
Published by Jill Binkley and colleagues in 1999. A change of about 9 points is often cited as clinically meaningful. It is used across hip, knee, ankle and foot conditions because it is not limited to one joint.
