LAQ stands for Long arc quad, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Seated knee extension exercise in which the patient straightens the knee from about 90 degrees of flexion to full extension, strengthening the quadriceps.
Example: LAQ 2 lb ankle weight, 3 x 10 each leg in chair.
Usage notes
A staple exercise after knee and hip surgery and for older adults with weak legs. Holding the leg straight for a few seconds increases the challenge. Ankle weights add progressive resistance.
