Jn stands for John, a Bible book abbreviation.
Fourth Gospel, 21 chapters, traditionally attributed to the apostle John, which differs from the other three in style and content, opening with "In the beginning was the Word." It contains John 3:16, perhaps the most quoted verse in the Bible, and the shortest verse, "Jesus wept" (11:35).
Example: The banner at the stadium simply read "Jn 3:16".
Usage notes
SBL and Chicago's traditional list leave John unabbreviated, while Catholic Bibles and Chicago's short forms use Jn; Jhn and Joh. also appear. Do not confuse Jn with Jon. (Jonah) or with 1 Jn, the First Letter of John. John's Gospel is built around seven "I am" sayings and seven signs.
