1. Intention-to-treat

Medical · Medical Research Abbreviations

Analysis principle in which every randomized participant is analyzed in the group to which they were assigned, whether or not they received or completed the treatment. It preserves the balance created by randomization and reflects how a treatment strategy performs in practice.

Example: Primary ITT analysis showed a 20% risk reduction; the per-protocol result was similar.

Summed up as "once randomized, always analyzed". Excluding dropouts or crossovers can bias results, because people who stop treatment often differ from those who continue. Modified ITT analyses exclude limited groups, such as people who never received a dose, and should be clearly defined in advance.

2. Invitation to tender

Business & Finance · Management & Strategy Abbreviations

Formal request, common in UK and EU public procurement, asking qualified suppliers to submit bids for a defined contract. An ITT pack usually includes the specification, evaluation criteria, contract terms and the deadline for sealed responses.

Example: Shortlisted firms received the ITT for the hospital catering contract after passing the pre-qualification stage.

An ITT often follows a pre-qualification or selection questionnaire that narrows the field of bidders. In the US, comparable documents are called RFPs or invitations for bid. ITT is also the name of an American industrial company, which is unrelated to the procurement term.

3. In this thread

Texting & Internet Slang · Social Media Abbreviations

Refers to the conversation happening in the current thread or comment section, usually to summarize or mock it, as in "ITT: people who never worked retail." Common on Reddit, 4chan and forums.

Example: ITT: people arguing about whether a hot dog is a sandwich.

Often used as the first line of a post to set its theme, or in a reply to sum up the crowd's behavior. It can be playful or sarcastic. Mostly used by forum veterans and Reddit users, and rarely seen outside threaded discussions.

4. Individual time trial

Sports · Other Sports Abbreviations

Cycling race against the clock in which riders start alone at intervals and the fastest time wins, with no drafting allowed. Grand tours include one or more ITT stages.

Example: Pogacar extended his lead with a dominant ITT win on the final day.

Nicknamed "the race of truth" because nothing but the rider's own strength matters. Team time trials (TTT) have whole teams ride together. Riders use special time-trial bikes, helmets and skinsuits to cut drag.
