INCS stands for Intranasal corticosteroids, a drug class abbreviation.
Steroid nasal sprays, including fluticasone, mometasone, budesonide and triamcinolone, that reduce nasal inflammation. They are the most effective single treatment for persistent allergic rhinitis and also treat nasal polyps.
Example: INCS fluticasone 2 sprays each nostril daily; aim away from septum.
Usage notes
Several became available over the counter in the US starting in 2013 and 2014. Full effect takes several days of daily use. Directing the spray toward the outer wall of the nostril reduces nosebleeds and septal irritation. Systemic absorption is low, but growth is monitored in children on long-term use.
