IHD stands for Ischemic heart disease, a cardiology abbreviation.
Heart disease caused by an inadequate supply of oxygenated blood to the myocardium, usually from coronary atherosclerosis. The WHO ranks it as the single leading cause of death worldwide, and the term is standard in global burden-of-disease statistics and in ICD-10 codes I20 to I25.
Example: Echo showed inferior hypokinesis, consistent with known IHD and a prior silent infarct.
Usage notes
IHD is somewhat broader than CAD because it includes ischemia from microvascular dysfunction, coronary spasm or nonobstructive disease, sometimes labeled INOCA (ischemia with no obstructive coronary arteries). British and international literature favor IHD, while US notes lean toward CAD. "Ischaemic" is the British spelling.
