IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education, a standardized test abbreviation.

International version of the GCSE offered by Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel, taken at about age 16 in more than 100 countries. It is widely used by international and private schools and is graded either A* to G or 9 to 1.

Example: The international school in Dubai prepares students for IGCSE exams in Year 11.

Usage notes

Cambridge's version is formally "Cambridge IGCSE", while Pearson Edexcel calls its version "International GCSE". Some UK independent schools favored IGCSEs because they relied more on final exams. In England they no longer count in state school performance tables.
