Credential awarded to students who complete Year 12 in New South Wales, Australia, based on school assessments and statewide exams set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). HSC results are used to calculate the ATAR for university admission.
Example: Her HSC results came out in December, a day before her ATAR.
Other Australian states use different certificates, such as the VCE in Victoria and the QCE in Queensland. HSC exams are held in October and November. In Bangladesh, Pakistan and parts of India, HSC instead means Higher Secondary Certificate, the Class 12 credential.

Public examination and credential completing Class 12 in Bangladesh, Pakistan and several Indian states such as Maharashtra, usually taken at about age 18 after two years of higher secondary study. Results determine eligibility for university and professional college admission.
Example: She earned a GPA 5.00 in her HSC exams in Dhaka and applied to engineering universities.
Bangladesh reports HSC results on a GPA scale up to 5.00, while Indian state boards report percentages. Students choose science, commerce or humanities streams. The preceding Class 10 exam is the SSC, and Pakistan's equivalent credential is often written HSSC.
