IFE stands for In-flight entertainment, an aviation abbreviation.
Movies, television, music, games and moving maps provided to passengers during a flight, either on seatback screens or streamed to personal devices. Long-haul widebody aircraft typically offer hundreds of on-demand titles.
Example: The IFE on the A350 had over 300 movies, but the headphone jack in my seat was broken.
Usage notes
Early in-flight movies were projected onto a single screen in the 1960s. Many airlines removed seatback screens on short-haul aircraft in the 2010s in favor of streaming to passengers' phones, saving weight. IFE is often paired with connectivity as IFEC.
