HR+ stands for Hormone receptor-positive, a hematology and oncology abbreviation.

Breast cancer whose cells express estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors or both, the most common breast cancer subtype. These tumors are treated with endocrine therapy that lowers estrogen or blocks its effects.

Example: HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer; first-line ribociclib plus letrozole.

Usage notes

Adjuvant endocrine therapy usually continues for 5 to 10 years because HR+ cancers can recur late, sometimes decades after diagnosis. CDK4/6 inhibitors (palbociclib, ribociclib, abemaciclib), first approved in 2015, prolong control of advanced disease, and some are used in high-risk early disease. Genomic tests such as Oncotype DX help decide which patients with early HR+ disease benefit from chemotherapy.
