GKE stands for Google Kubernetes Engine, a cloud computing abbreviation.

Google Cloud's managed Kubernetes service, run by the company that created Kubernetes, with an Autopilot mode that manages nodes automatically and bills per pod.

Example: We run the batch jobs on GKE Autopilot, so we never size or patch nodes.

Usage notes

Launched in 2015 as Google Container Engine and renamed in 2017. It is often first to support new Kubernetes features because of Google's role in the project. Clusters can be zonal or regional for higher availability.
