FTSG stands for Full-thickness skin graft, a surgical abbreviation.
Skin graft containing the entire epidermis and dermis, cut with a scalpel from sites such as behind the ear, above the collarbone or the groin, and used for smaller defects of the face, hands and eyelids. It gives better color match and less contraction than a split-thickness graft.
Example: FTSG from the preauricular area to the nasal tip defect after Mohs.
Usage notes
The donor site must be closed with stitches because no dermis remains to regenerate. Full-thickness grafts need a well-vascularized wound bed to survive. A bolster dressing is often sewn over the graft for about a week to keep it pressed to the wound.
