FSR stands for FidelityFX Super Resolution, a computer hardware abbreviation.
AMD's upscaling technology for games, rendering at a lower resolution and reconstructing a sharper image to boost frame rates. Versions 1 to 3 run on graphics cards from any vendor, including consoles and handheld PCs.
Example: The Steam Deck runs the game at 720p, and FSR upscales it to look sharper.
Usage notes
FSR 1 (2021) was a simple spatial upscaler, FSR 2 (2022) added temporal data and FSR 3 (2023) brought frame generation. FSR 4, launched with the Radeon RX 9070 series in 2025, uses machine learning and requires newer AMD hardware. AMD published the earlier versions as open source, which helped them spread to consoles and to many games.
