FNG stands for F***ing new guy, a military term abbreviation.
Military slang for a newly arrived member of a unit, especially an inexperienced replacement in combat, who has to earn the trust of veterans before being accepted.
Example: The FNG got stuck with every crappy detail his first month in the platoon.
Usage notes
The term became widespread during the Vietnam War, when individual replacements arrived alone in units mid-tour. Civilian workplaces such as firefighting, police and tech companies borrowed it. A politer version is "funny new guy."
