ESEA stands for Elementary and Secondary Education Act, a US law abbreviation.

Primary federal law for K-12 education, first enacted in 1965, which funds schools serving low-income students through Title I and sets conditions for that aid. Later versions include No Child Left Behind (2002) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (2015).

Example: Title I of the ESEA sends extra federal money to schools with high poverty rates.

Usage notes

President Lyndon Johnson signed it on April 11, 1965 in front of the former one-room school he had attended in Texas, with his first teacher beside him. It was part of the War on Poverty. Because each reauthorization keeps the original framework, education officials still refer to programs by their ESEA title numbers.
