CategoriesEducation & Academia

ELPAC stands for English Language Proficiency Assessments for California, a standardized test abbreviation.

California's test for identifying and monitoring English learners, given as the Initial ELPAC when a student with a home language other than English first enrolls and as the Summative ELPAC each spring. It covers listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Example: Because Spanish is spoken at home, the school gave him the Initial ELPAC within 30 days of enrollment.

Usage notes

ELPAC replaced the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) in 2018. Results help determine when students are reclassified as fluent English proficient (RFEP). California, home to more English learners than any other state, uses ELPAC instead of WIDA ACCESS.
