ED&C stands for Electrodesiccation and curettage, a dermatology abbreviation.
Office treatment for small, low-risk basal cell carcinomas and SCC in situ in which the tumor is scraped away with a curette and the base is cauterized, typically repeated for two or three cycles. It is quick and inexpensive but provides no margin assessment.
Example: Superficial BCC on back, 7 mm; ED&C x 3 cycles, wound care instructions given.
Usage notes
Best suited to the trunk and limbs, where recurrence risk is low and scars are less visible; it is avoided on the central face and in hair-bearing skin. Healing leaves a round, flat white scar. Also written EDC or C&E. Cure rates for appropriately selected tumors exceed 90 percent.
