DTE stands for Days to expiration, a stock market & investing abbreviation.
Number of days remaining until an options or futures contract expires, a key input for how fast an option loses time value. Traders refer to options expiring the same day as "0DTE."
Example: 0DTE options now account for roughly half of SPX options volume.
Usage notes
Time decay (theta) accelerates as DTE approaches zero, especially for at-the-money options. The boom in 0DTE trading followed the addition of SPX expirations on every weekday in 2022. DTE is also the name of a Michigan-based energy company.
