DPICM stands for Dual-purpose improved conventional munition, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.
Artillery shell or rocket that releases dozens of small grenades effective against both personnel and lightly armored vehicles. It is a type of cluster munition.
Example: The battery fired DPICM rounds at the trench line.
Usage notes
The United States sent DPICM artillery rounds to Ukraine in 2023 despite concerns about unexploded submunitions. Older DPICM rounds have significant dud rates, leaving hazards. Pronounced "DEE-pick-um." Some newer artillery designs replace submunitions with alternative warheads to reduce leftover hazards.
