CoQ10 stands for Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone), a drug abbreviation.

Compound that helps cells produce energy in mitochondria, made by the body and sold as a dietary supplement. People take it for statin-associated muscle aches, heart failure, migraine prevention and fatigue, with mixed evidence.

Example: Patient takes CoQ10 200 mg daily for statin myalgia; no change in symptoms.

Usage notes

Statins lower CoQ10 levels because both come from the same metabolic pathway, but randomized trials have not consistently shown that supplements relieve statin muscle pain. Some headache guidelines list it as possibly effective for migraine prevention. It may reduce the effect of warfarin. Ubiquinol is the reduced form sold as a premium version.
