CategoriesMedical

CHOP stands for Cyclophosphamide, hydroxydaunorubicin (doxorubicin), Oncovin (vincristine), prednisone, a hematology and oncology abbreviation.

Combination chemotherapy regimen for non-Hodgkin lymphoma developed in the 1970s, still used for T-cell lymphomas and as the backbone of R-CHOP for B-cell lymphomas. It is typically given every three weeks.

Example: Peripheral T-cell lymphoma: CHOP plus etoposide (CHOEP) every 21 days.

Usage notes

A landmark 1993 trial showed that CHOP was as effective as more complex, more toxic regimens, cementing its place as the standard. The acronym mixes generic and brand names: H for hydroxydaunorubicin (doxorubicin) and O for Oncovin, the brand name of vincristine. Brentuximab vedotin is combined with a modified version (CHP) for CD30-positive T-cell lymphomas.
