CAPOX stands for Capecitabine and oxaliplatin, a hematology and oncology abbreviation.
Chemotherapy combination using oral capecitabine twice daily for 14 days with intravenous oxaliplatin every three weeks, used for colorectal and stomach cancers as an alternative to FOLFOX that avoids an infusion pump.
Example: Low-risk stage III colon cancer: CAPOX for 3 months per IDEA.
Usage notes
Also called XELOX, after Xeloda, the brand name of capecitabine. The international IDEA collaboration (2018) found that three months of CAPOX was about as effective as six months for low-risk stage III colon cancer, with much less nerve damage. Capecitabine can cause hand-foot syndrome and diarrhea and interacts with warfarin.
