CBOT stands for Chicago Board of Trade, a stock market & investing abbreviation.
Futures exchange founded in 1848, the oldest in the United States, historically known for trading in grains such as corn, wheat and soybeans and later for Treasury bond futures. It has been part of CME Group since 2007.
Example: Soybean futures on the CBOT fell to a four-year low on forecasts of a record harvest.
Usage notes
The CBOT introduced standardized forward contracts, known as futures, in 1865. Its open-outcry pits, where traders used hand signals, were famous until electronic trading largely replaced them. The Chicago Board Options Exchange was founded by CBOT members in 1973.
