BSE stands for BSE Limited (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange), a stock market & investing abbreviation.
Asia's oldest stock exchange, founded in 1875 in Mumbai and now officially named BSE Limited. Its benchmark index, the Sensex, tracks 30 large Indian companies.
Example: The Sensex on the BSE crossed a new milestone as foreign investors returned to Indian equities.
Usage notes
The exchange began as the Native Share & Stock Brokers' Association, whose members met under banyan trees in Mumbai. It lists more companies than almost any other exchange, though most trading volume in Indian equities now takes place on the National Stock Exchange. Many large Indian companies are listed on both.
