BFR stands for Biennial flight review, an aviation abbreviation.
Required refresher for US pilots consisting of at least one hour of ground instruction and one hour of flight instruction with a flight instructor every 24 calendar months. The FAA renamed it "flight review" decades ago, but pilots still say BFR.
Example: My BFR expires at the end of the month, so I've booked an instructor for Saturday morning.
Usage notes
Governed by 14 CFR 61.56. There is no pass or fail; the instructor either endorses the logbook or recommends more training. Completing a checkride for a new certificate or rating, or a phase of the FAA WINGS proficiency program, also satisfies the requirement.
