2 Esd. stands for 2 Esdras, a Bible book abbreviation.
Apocalyptic book of 16 chapters, centered on seven visions given to Ezra (chapters 3–14, often called 4 Ezra), wrestling with why God allowed the destruction of Jerusalem. It is included in the Apocrypha of Protestant Bibles and in an appendix to the Vulgate.
Example: The words of the Latin requiem, "Eternal rest grant unto them", echo 2 Esd. 2:34–35.
Usage notes
SBL writes 2 Esd, and scholars often cite the core as 4 Ezra. The Vulgate calls it 4 Esdras. It is not part of the Catholic canon, though it influenced Catholic liturgy.
