WPPSI stands for Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, a psychology abbreviation.
Intelligence test for young children, from about 2 and a half to 7 and a half years, using picture-based and play-like tasks suited to their age. It is used to assess developmental delays, giftedness and school readiness.
Example: The WPPSI was given before kindergarten to evaluate the child for early intervention services.
Usage notes
First published in 1967, it is now in its fourth edition (WPPSI-IV, 2012). Scores in early childhood are less stable than later in life, so results are interpreted cautiously. Commonly pronounced "WIP-see."
