WOT stands for Wide-open throttle, an automotive abbreviation.

Condition in which the accelerator is pressed fully and the throttle plate is completely open, letting the engine produce maximum power. Tuners and testers use WOT to describe full-power runs on a dyno or during acceleration tests.

Example: Our WOT pull on the dyno showed 410 horsepower at the wheels.

Usage notes

Engine computers switch to richer fuel mixtures at WOT to protect the engine. Air conditioning compressors are often disengaged at WOT to free up power. Some government fuel-economy tests include short WOT segments to reflect aggressive driving.
