ADAS stands for Advanced driver-assistance systems, an automotive abbreviation.
Umbrella term for electronic features that help drivers avoid crashes and reduce workload, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and blind spot monitoring. ADAS relies on cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors and sometimes lidar.
Example: After the windshield replacement, the shop recalibrated the ADAS camera so lane keeping would work.
Usage notes
SAE standard J3016 defines driving automation from Level 0 (none) to Level 5 (full automation); most ADAS packages are Level 1 or 2, meaning the driver must supervise at all times. Repairs to bumpers and windshields often require sensor recalibration, adding cost. Marketing names vary widely, which safety groups say confuses consumers.
