1. Vegan

Units & Measurements · Cooking Abbreviations

Menu and packaging label for food containing no animal products at all, including meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey. Many restaurants pair it with V for vegetarian, though the two codes are occasionally reversed.

Example: The lentil curry and roasted cauliflower are both VG and GF.

Some British menus use VE for vegan to avoid confusion with vegetarian. The word vegan was coined in 1944 by Donald Watson and Dorothy Morgan, founders of The Vegan Society, whose sunflower trademark now certifies products. Vegan menu items may still be prepared on shared equipment, which matters to diners with milk or egg allergies.

2. British Virgin Islands

Geography & Places · Country Code Abbreviations

British Overseas Territory east of Puerto Rico, with Road Town on Tortola as its capital and VGB as its alpha-3 code. The territory is a major offshore company registry and sailing destination.

Example: Company registry searches for VG entities require a paid account.

In writing the territory is usually BVI. The US Virgin Islands use VI. The US dollar is the official currency.

3. Vicar general

Religion · Religious Title Abbreviations

Priest appointed by a Catholic diocesan bishop to act as his deputy with broad executive authority over the administration of the diocese. The title often appears after the priest's name in diocesan letters and directories.

Example: The decree was signed by Msgr. John Brady, VG, on behalf of the bishop.

Canon law requires every diocese to have a vicar general. Episcopal vicars have similar authority over a specific region or area of ministry. Vicars general are styled "Very Reverend" unless they hold a higher title.
