USMS stands for United States Marshals Service, a US federal agency abbreviation.
Protects federal judges and courthouses, hunts federal fugitives, transports federal prisoners, runs the Witness Security Program and manages assets seized from criminals. Each of the 94 federal judicial districts has a presidentially appointed US Marshal.
Example: The fugitive was arrested by a USMS task force at a motel near the interstate.
Usage notes
Marshals were created by the Judiciary Act of 1789, making theirs the oldest federal law enforcement office, though the Marshals Service as a unified agency dates to 1969. Its "15 Most Wanted" list is separate from the FBI's Ten Most Wanted. Line officers are titled deputy US marshals.
