1. Uniform Commercial Code

Model body of law governing commercial transactions, drafted by the American Law Institute and the Uniform Law Commission and enacted, with local variations, in every state. Article 2 covers sales of goods and Article 9 secured transactions; other articles cover leases, negotiable instruments, bank deposits, letters of credit and documents of title.
Example: Because the contract was for goods, the UCC's Article 2 rules on acceptance and rejection applied.
First published in 1952. Louisiana adopted only some articles and not Article 2. Lenders file "UCC-1 financing statements" with a state office to perfect security interests under Article 9. Section 2-207 governs the battle of the forms. Amendments approved in 2022 added Article 12 on controllable electronic records such as some digital assets.
2. United Church of Christ

Mainline Protestant denomination formed in 1957 by uniting the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. It is known for progressive social positions and congregational self-government.
Example: Her UCC congregation flies a rainbow banner beside its "God is still speaking" sign.
In 1972 the UCC ordained William Johnson, the first openly gay minister ordained by a mainline Protestant denomination. Its Congregational roots go back to the Pilgrims and Puritans of New England. Former president Barack Obama attended a UCC church in Chicago.
