TRRS stands for Tip, ring, ring, sleeve, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Four-contact audio connector, usually 3.5 mm, carrying stereo audio plus a microphone signal, used for phone headsets and gaming headsets with a single plug.
Example: The TRRS headset works on the laptop, but its mic needs a splitter for the desktop's separate jacks.
Usage notes
Two incompatible wiring standards exist: CTIA, used by Apple and most modern Android phones, and the older OMTP, used by some early Nokia and Samsung phones, which swap the microphone and ground contacts. A mismatch makes music sound hollow until a button is pressed. Adapters convert between TRRS and separate TRS headphone and mic jacks.
