THSR stands for Taiwan High Speed Rail, a rail and transit abbreviation.
High-speed railway running along Taiwan's west coast from Nangang in Taipei to Zuoying in Kaohsiung, cutting the trip to about 90 minutes. It uses Japanese Shinkansen trains and technology.
Example: THSR to Kaohsiung was so smooth I fell asleep before Taichung.
Usage notes
Opened in 2007 after construction financed through a build-operate-transfer arrangement. The rolling stock is based on Japan's 700 Series Shinkansen. Most major stations are outside city centers and connected by metro or shuttle.
