SNU stands for Seoul National University, a university abbreviation.
South Korea's flagship national university, founded in 1946 in Seoul, the most selective of the country's "SKY" universities (Seoul National, Korea and Yonsei). Admission is extremely competitive and is strongly tied to the national college entrance exam.

Usage notes
The main Gwanak campus lies on the slopes of Gwanaksan mountain. Many of South Korea's political and business leaders are graduates. The university's gate sculpture combines the Korean initials of its name.
