SFG stands for Special Forces Group, a military unit and organization abbreviation.

US Army Special Forces formation, roughly brigade-size, commanded by a colonel and aligned with a region of the world for language and cultural expertise. Active groups are the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 10th, with the 19th and 20th in the National Guard.

Example: 5th SFG soldiers were among the first Americans in Afghanistan after September 11.

Usage notes

Groups are written with "(Airborne)," as in 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and each has its own beret flash. The 10th Group, activated in 1952, was the first. Regional alignment means members of a group often study the same languages.
