SDG stands for Sustainable Development Goal, an environmental abbreviation.
One of 17 global goals adopted by all UN member states in September 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, covering poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water, energy, climate, oceans, land and more. Together they include 169 targets.
Example: The project contributes to SDG 6, ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.
Usage notes
The SDGs replaced the eight Millennium Development Goals, which ran from 2000 to 2015. Goals 13 (climate action), 14 (life below water) and 15 (life on land) are the most directly environmental. UN progress reports show most targets are off track for 2030. Companies often map their sustainability reports to SDG numbers.
