PZEV stands for Partial zero-emission vehicle, an automotive abbreviation.
California emissions category for gasoline cars that meet the strict SULEV tailpipe standard, have zero evaporative emissions and carry an extended 15-year or 150,000-mile warranty on emissions components. Many ordinary sedans of the 2000s were sold as PZEVs.
Example: Check the label under the hood; if it's a PZEV, the catalytic converter is covered for 150,000 miles.
Usage notes
PZEVs let automakers earn partial credit toward California's zero-emission mandate without selling electric cars. Hybrids meeting these standards were called AT-PZEVs (advanced technology PZEVs). Later California rules folded the category into newer standards.
