PWB stands for Partial weight bearing, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Order allowing only a portion of body weight on the affected limb, often stated as a percentage or in pounds, such as 50 percent PWB. Patients learn the limit by practicing on a bathroom scale.
Example: PWB 30 lb LLE; patient practiced on scale, reproduced load accurately.
Usage notes
Partial weight bearing is harder to perform accurately than NWB or WBAT, and studies show many patients exceed the limit. Orders should state the amount. Progression is set by the surgeon based on X-ray healing.
