OSF stands for Order of Saint Francis, a religious title abbreviation.

Used after the names of members of many independent congregations of Franciscan sisters, and by some brothers, following the Third Order Regular rule of St. Francis. Communities such as the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in Milwaukee and the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany use it.

Example: The hospital's chaplaincy program is directed by an OSF sister from the founding congregation.

Usage notes

Because dozens of separate congregations share OSF, the full community name is needed for precision. Many Catholic hospitals in the Midwest were founded by OSF sisters. Franciscan friars use OFM instead.
