Usage notes
Established in 2008 and made a non-ministerial department in 2010. In 2020 its algorithm for estimating grades after exams were canceled was abandoned following protests, and teacher-assessed grades were used instead. Exams themselves are set by awarding bodies such as AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR.
