OF-2
Stands for	NATO officer grade 2
Categories	Military

OF-2 stands for NATO officer grade 2, a military pay grade abbreviation.

Captain-level officers share this NATO code: US Army, Air Force and Marine captains (O-3), US Navy and Coast Guard lieutenants, British Army captains, Royal Navy lieutenants and RAF flight lieutenants.

Example: The exchange officer, an OF-2 from the Royal Navy, holds the rank of lieutenant.

Usage notes

A Royal Navy or US Navy lieutenant is senior to an Army lieutenant, sitting at OF-2 rather than OF-1, which reflects naval rank history. Company command typically falls at OF-2 in NATO armies.
