MWC stands for Mobile World Congress, a telecom abbreviation.
World's largest annual mobile industry trade show, held in Barcelona each February or March and organized by the GSMA. Phone makers, network equipment vendors and operators unveil products and announce deals there.
Example: Several companies chose MWC to show off new foldable phones and 5G-Advanced equipment.
Usage notes
The event began in the 1980s as a GSM industry conference and moved to Barcelona in 2006 after years in Cannes, where it was called 3GSM World Congress. Its 2020 edition was canceled days before opening because of COVID-19, the first cancellation in its history. Smaller spin-offs take place in Shanghai and Las Vegas. Its official name is now MWC Barcelona.
