MRAF stands for Marshal of the Royal Air Force, a british military rank abbreviation.
Five-star rank of the Royal Air Force, NATO grade OF-10, equivalent to a field marshal or admiral of the fleet. Routine promotion to MRAF ended in the 1990s, and the rank is now conferred only as an honour.
Example: Lord Trenchard, the RAF's founding father, became the first MRAF in 1927.
Usage notes
Hugh Trenchard, who shaped the RAF as an independent service after its formation on 1 April 1918, was the first holder. King Charles III holds the rank as head of the armed forces. The equivalent US rank, General of the Air Force, was held only by Henry "Hap" Arnold.
