MPPT stands for Maximum power point tracking, an energy abbreviation.
Control technique in solar inverters and charge controllers that continuously adjusts the electrical load on solar panels to extract the most power as sunlight and temperature change. Every panel has a voltage at which its output peaks, and MPPT tracks it.
Example: The off-grid charge controller uses MPPT to get more energy from the panels on cloudy mornings.
Usage notes
Simpler PWM charge controllers tie panel voltage to battery voltage, wasting power when the two differ. Microinverters and optimizers perform MPPT for each panel individually, reducing losses from shading. Algorithms such as "perturb and observe" are common.
