MARPAT stands for Marine Pattern, a military term abbreviation.
Digital camouflage pattern used on Marine Corps combat utility uniforms, introduced in the early 2000s in woodland and desert variants. The Marine Corps protects the pattern so other services and civilians cannot copy it.
Example: Marines in desert MARPAT patrolled the outskirts of the town.
Usage notes
MARPAT was one of the first digital camouflage patterns adopted by the US military, and the Marine Corps emblem is hidden in the pattern itself. Marines call the uniform "cammies" or "utilities." Commercial copies appear despite the protection.
