M&M's stands for Mars & Murrie, a company and brand abbreviation.
Candy-coated chocolate made by Mars, Incorporated, sold in many varieties such as peanut and peanut butter, and printed with a small "m" on each piece.
Example: She always picks the green M&M's out of the bag first.
Usage notes
Forrest Mars Sr. launched the candy in 1941 in Newark, New Jersey, with Bruce Murrie, son of a Hershey's executive; the two Ms stand for their surnames. The candy shell kept the chocolate from melting, giving rise to the slogan "melts in your mouth, not in your hand". The spokescandies debuted in their modern form in the 1990s.
