CategoriesMedical

LCx stands for Left circumflex artery, a cardiology abbreviation.

Branch of the left main coronary artery that wraps around the left side of the heart in the groove between the left atrium and ventricle, supplying the lateral and posterior walls through obtuse marginal branches. In about 10 percent of people it also supplies the inferior wall.

Example: Mid LCx 80% stenosis involving OM1; staged PCI planned.

Usage notes

Circumflex blockages are notorious for being "electrically silent" on the standard 12-lead ECG, so circumflex heart attacks are more often missed or classified as NSTEMI; posterior leads V7 to V9 improve detection. Also written LCX, Cx or "circ." When the circumflex gives rise to the posterior descending artery, the circulation is called left-dominant.
